Sartoris

Sartoris is a novel, first published in 1929, by the American author William Faulkner. It portrays the decay of the Mississippi aristocracy following the social upheaval of the American Civil War. The 1929 edition is a cut version of the novel published in full as Flags in the Dust in 1973. Faulkner's great-grandfather William Clark Falkner, himself a colonel in the American Civil War, served as the model for Colonel John Sartoris.

Sartoris est le troisième roman de William Faulkner publié en 1929. Il relate la décadence de l'aristocratie du Mississippi consécutive aux bouleversements sociaux entrainés par la Guerre de Secession. L'édition de 1929 est une version abrégée du roman intégralement publié en 1973 sous le titre Étendards dans la poussière (Flags in the Dust) . L'arrière grand-père de Faulkner, William Clark Falkner, colonel lors de la Guerre de Secession a servi de modèle au personnage du colonel John Sartoris.
