Sarmatia

The Sarmatians, Sarmatae or Sauromatae were a people originally of Iranian stock. Mentioned by classical authors, they migrated from Central Asia to the Ural Mountains around 5th century B.C. and eventually settled in most of southern European Russia, Ukraine, and the eastern Balkans.Pliny the Elder (N.H. book iv) wrote that the Latin Sarmatae is identical to the Greek Sauromatae. At their greatest reported extent these tribes ranged from the  Vistula river to the mouth of the Danube and eastward to the Volga, and from the mysterious domain of the Hyperboreans in the north, southward to the shores of the Black and Caspian seas, including the region between them as far as the Caucasus mountains. The richest tombs and the most significant finds of Sarmatian artifacts have been recorded in the Krasnodar Krai of Russia.

Les Sarmates (Sauromates pour les Sarmates protohistoriques) sont un ancien peuple scythique de nomades des steppes, appartenant sur le plan ethno-linguistique au rameau iranien septentrional du grand ensemble indo-européen. Ils étaient établis à l'origine entre le Don et l'Oural.

Als Sarmatien oder Sarmatia bezeichneten Griechen, Römer und Byzantiner vor allem in der Spätantike ein großes Gebiet zwischen den Flüssen Weichsel im Westen und Wolga im Osten und zwischen Ostsee und Schwarzem Meer, wovon ein Teil den geografischen Namen Sarmatische Tiefebene (in Galizien) trägt. Zu jener Zeit wurde diese Region vorwiegend von sarmatischen Völkern bewohnt. Mit Ausnahme der südlichen Landschaften war das Land rau und winterlich, von Natur aus eher zur Viehzucht als zum Ackerbau geeignet.

Korporacja Akademicka Sarmatia założona została w Petersburgu 8 maja 1908 r. Jest stowarzyszeniem polskiej młodzieży akademickiej posiadającej pewne wspólne cele, ideały i chęć samokształcenia. Sarmatia jest siódmą według zasad starszeństwa polską korporacją akademicką.

Sarmaci (lub Sauromaci) to nazwa irańskich ludów koczowniczo-pasterskich. Sarmaci byli spokrewnieni ze Scytami, Medami, Partami i Persami. Pierwsze wzmianki o Sarmatach znajdują się u Herodota (IV,21), Hipokratesa i Strabona. W starych dziełach zapisano, że mieszkali na ziemiach polskich na wschód od Wisły. Sarmaci tworzyli związek plemion, do którego zalicza się: Jazygów, Roksolanów, Syraków, Aorsów, Antów i Alanów. Najwcześniejsi Sarmaci, około 600 p.n.e. zasiedlali dorzecze dolnej Wołgi. Prowadząc koczowniczy lub osiadły tryb życia zamieszkiwali tereny między Mołdawią, Ukrainą, Polską, wybrzeżami Morza Czarnego, Jeziora Aralskiego, poprzez Kazachstan do Ałtaju i południowej Syberii. Ślady ich pobytu odkryto głównie w dopływach Dniestru, Dniepru, delt Amu-darii i Syr-darii, wzdłuż brzegów Wołgi, Samary i na Uralu.
