Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba is the capital city of Santiago de Cuba Province in the south-eastern area of the island nation of Cuba, some east south-east of the Cuban capital of Havana. The municipality extends over , and contains the communities of El Caney, Guilera, Antonio Maceo, Bravo, Castillo Duany, Leyte Vidal and Moncada.Historically Santiago de Cuba has long been the second most important city on the island after Havana, and still remains the second largest. It is on a bay connected to the Caribbean Sea and is an important sea port. In 2004 the city of Santiago de Cuba had a population of about 494,337 people.

Santiago de Cuba est un ville cubaine d'environ 400 000 habitants, située à un peu moins de 1 000 kilomètres de La Havane. Santiago est la deuxième plus grande ville de Cuba. La ville se situe entre la mer des Caraïbes et les montagnes de la Sierra Maestra.

Santiago de Cuba ist die zweitgrößte Stadt Kubas und die Hauptstadt der Provinz Santiago de Cuba. Santiago wurde am 25. Juli 1515 von Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar gegründet. Die Stadt hat 423.392 Einwohner (Volkszählung 2002). Früher war sie Hauptstadt Kubas und Hauptstützpunkt der spanischen Armada in der Karibik. Daneben war sie Ankunftshafen für die Sklavenschiffe aus Westafrika. Noch heute ist hier der größte Teil der Bevölkerung afrikanischer Abstammung.

Santiago de Cuba, miasto i port w południowo-wschodniej Kubie, drugie co do wielkości w kraju, położone nad malowniczą zatoką Morza Karaibskiego.Jest stolicą admistracyjną prowincji Santiago de Cuba.Santiago de Cuba założone zostało przez hiszpańskiego konkwistadora Diego Velázquez de Cuéllara 28 czerwca 1514 roku. W latach 1522-1589 Santiago była stolicą hiszpańskiej kolonii Kuba. W 1898 o miasto toczyły się walki podczas wojny amerykańsko-hiszpańskiej, a przed miastem rozegrała się bitwa morska pod Santiago de Cuba.
