Sanskrit ( , for short ) is an ancient Indo-European classical language of India, a liturgical language of Hinduism and Buddhism primarily, and utilised occasionally in Jainism. It is one of the 22 official languages of India, and an ancestor of the modern Indo-Aryan languages. It has the same status in Nepal as well.
