San Diego County is a large county located in the southwestern corner of the US state of California. It is the southwesternmost county in the 48 contiguous United States. Its county seat and largest city is San Diego. The county's population was about 2,813,835 in the 2000 U.S. Census. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, San Diego County had a population of 3,095,313 people, making it the second-most-populous county in California, just behind Los Angeles County. Its population in 2009 was estimated at 3,208,466, making it the fifth most-populous county in the United States and giving it a population greater than 20 of the 50 U.S. states.
