Samarkand
Samarkand (, , , ), population 412,300 in 2005, is the second-largest city in Uzbekistan and the capital of Samarqand Province. Despite its status as the second city of Uzbekistan, the majority of the city's inhabitants are Persian-speaking Tajiks. The city is most noted for its central position on the Asian Silk Road between China and the west.

Samarcande
Samarcande, parfois écrit Samarkand (forme anglaise) (ouzbek : Samarqand, tadjik : Самарқанд, russe : Самарканд, perse : سمرقند), population  habitants, est une ville d'Ouzbékistan, capitale de la région de Samarcande (Samarqand Viloyati). Son nom signifie probablement « lieu de la rencontre » ou « lieu du conflit » (samara : rencontre, conflit en sanskrit, kand, kent : ville, terme centre-asiatique) et illustre bien sa position à la limite des mondes turc et persan.

Samarkanda (uzbec. Samarqand, tadżyc. Самарқанд, pers. سمرقند, ros. Самарканд) - miasto w Uzbekistanie, w Azji Środkowej, ok. 412 tys. mieszkańców (2005). Drugie pod względem ludności miasto Uzbekistanu i stolica wilajetu samarkandzkiego. Ważny ośrodek przemysłowy i naukowy (6 szkół wyższych). W 2001 roku miasto zostało wpisane na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.
