Saab Automobile AB, better known as Saab , is a Swedish car manufacturer currently under receivership. It was formed in 1945 out of Saab AB, "Svenska Aeroplan AB (aktiebolaget)" , a Swedish aerospace and defence company, when Saab AB started a project to design a small automobile. The Saab 92, Saab's first production model, was launched in 1949. The parent company merged with Scania-Vabis in 1968, and ten years later, in 1978, launched the Saab 900, Saab's best-selling and most iconic model. In the late 1980s, the new Saab 9000 turned out to be a major disappointment and in 1989, the Saab car division of Saab-Scania was restructured into an independent company, Saab Automobile AB; General Motors (GM), with an investment of US$600 million, owned 50%. GM exercised their option to acquire the remaining Saab shares in 2000, spending US$125 million to turn the company into a wholly owned subsidiary. GM sold it to the Dutch automobile manufacturer Spyker Cars N.V. (now Swedish Automobile) in 2010. After struggling to avoid insolvency throughout 2011, the company petitioned the Swedish court for bankruptcy following the failure of a Chinese consortium to complete a purchase of the company; the purchase had been blocked by former owner GM, which opposed the transfer of licenses for patents and technology to Chinese companies. On March 6, 2012, an Indian newspaper reported that at least two companies have placed bids for a complete SAAB Automobile buy out. These are India’s Mahindra and Mahindra and China’s Youngman. It is reported that these bids are in the range of $300 million to $400 million.

SAAB is an acronym for "Svenska Aeroplan AB (aktiebolaget)" (Swedish for "Swedish Aeroplane Limited") and may as such refer to:

• Saab-Scania (1968-1995), the corporate group formed by Saab AB and Scania
• Datasaab, a former computer company, started as spin off from Saab AB
• SAABO, a caravan produced by Saab Automobile from 1964 to 1968

Saab AB ist ein schwedischer Luftfahrt- und Rüstungskonzern. Das 1937 als Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (woraus später „Saab“ als Akronym abgeleitet wurde) gegründete Unternehmen unterhielt seit 1947 eine Pkw-Sparte, welche ab 1990 als Saab Automobile AB firmierte und 2000 vollständig aus dem Konzern ausgegliedert wurde. 1968 fusionierte Saab mit dem Lkw-Hersteller Scania und firmierte bis zur Trennung dieser Fusion 1995 als Saab-Scania.

Saab est le nom d'un constructeur aéronautique et d'un constructeur automobile suédois. Ce nom est l'acronyme de Svenska Aeroplan AB (AB pour Aktie Bolaget), ce qui peut se traduire par « Aéroplanes Suédois SA ».

SAAB ("Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolaget") została założona jako szwedzki koncern lotniczy w roku 1937, w Linköping, w Szwecji. Po drugiej wojnie światowej firma stanęła w obliczu stagnacji na rynku  samolotów (skończyły się zamówienia wojskowe) i kierownictwo firmy postanowiło stworzyć dodatkowo dział "dochodowy", zajmujący się produkcją samochodów nazwany Saab Automobile.
