SIGMET, or Significant Meteorological Information, is a weather advisory that contains meteorological information concerning the safety of all aircraft. There are two types of SIGMETs, convective and non-convective. The criteria for a non-convective SIGMET to be issued are severe or greater turbulence over a area, or severe or greater icing over a area or IMC conditions over a area due to dust, sand, or volcanic ash [1]

SIGMET ist ein Wetterwarnsystem für den Flugverkehr. Das englische Akronym SIGMET steht für wesentliche meteorologische Erscheinungen (engl. significant meteorological phenomena).

Un SIGMET (SIGnificant METeorological Information ) est un message destiné aux aéronefs en vol signalant les phénomènes météorologiques très dangereux et organisés observés et/ou prévus. Les SIGMET sont émis même si ces conditions sont mentionnés dans les prévisions de zone ou d'aérodrome, contrairement aux Airmet qui sont des modifications plus mineures à ces prévisions. Ces messages complètent donc les prévisions dans le secteur visé.

SIGMET è l'acronimo di SIGnificant METeorologic information, "Informazioni meteorologiche significative d'area". Il SIGMET è un messaggio di informazioni meteorologiche che riguardano fenomeni meteorologici, osservati e/o previsti, di intensità forte all'interno delle FIR - Flight Information Region.
