In writing, it is placed within square brackets and usually italicized — [sic] — to indicate that an incorrect or unusual  spelling, phrase, punctuation, and/or other preceding quoted material has been reproduced from the quoted original and is not a transcription error.

Slipknot is the major label debut album by Slipknot. It was released on June 29 1999 by Roadrunner Records. A digipak version was released on March 7 2000. This was followed by a "clean" version which was left completely uncensored, and contained a note in the booklet claiming censorship as being "the absolute fascism of America." Many of the tracks borrowed musical compositions from Slipknot's independently-released debut album, Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.

L'album éponyme est paru le 29 juin 1999, produit par Ross Robinson. L'album se vendit bien, grâce notamment au bouche-à-oreille, et devint le premier album de Roadrunner Records à devenir disque de platine (plus d'un million de disques vendus aux États-Unis). Leur fan-club s'est également beaucoup agrandi grâce à l'Ozzfest 1999, où ils remportèrent un franc succès. Cet album et les concerts l'ayant promu ont permis au groupe de réaliser leur premier DVD, nommé Welcome To Our Neighbourhood, contenant beaucoup de scènes live.

Sic è un termine della lingua latina, la cui traduzione letterale è "così". Viene usato spesso in italiano per indicare è proprio così (Sic et simpliciter).L'avverbio affermativo "sì" dell'italiano deriva appunto da questo termine. Tale valore è evidente nel latino medioevale dell'opera di Pietro Abelardo Sic et non, il cui titolo significa "Sì e no". Solitamente, è usato dagli editori o da chi cita un brano altrui, nella forma (sic) - oppure, per accentuare la sorpresa, sic! -, per evidenziare che un errore presente nel testo che si riporta era già contenuto in quello originale e non è dunque frutto di un refuso, di altro errore di trascrizione o di stampa.
