Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbo-Croatian and Macedonian (Cyrillic only): Socijalistička federativna republika Jugoslavija or Социјалистичка федеративна република Југославија; Slovenian: Socialistična federativna republika Jugoslavija) was the Yugoslav state that existed from the end of World War II (1945) until it was formally dissolved in 1992 (de facto dissolved in 1991 with no leaders representing it) amid the Yugoslav wars. It was a communist state that comprised the area of the present-day independent states of Bosnia and HerzegovinaCroatiaRepublic of MacedoniaMontenegroSerbia and Slovenia. In 1992, the two remaining states still committed to a union, Serbia and Montenegro, formed the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which was officially recognized as the successor of the SFRY by the international community in 2000.
