Charles Sprague Sargent (April 21 1841-March 22 1927) was an American botanist. He was the first director of the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University, and the standard botanical author abbreviation Sarg. is applied to plants he described.Sargent was the second son of Henrietta (Gray) and Ignatius Sargent, a Boston merchant and banker who grew wealthy on railroad investments. He grew up on his father's 130 acre (526,000 m²) estate in  Brookline, Massachusetts, and attended Harvard College, where he graduated in the Class of 1862. He enlisted in the Union Army later that year, saw service in Louisiana during the American Civil War, and was mustered out in 1865, after which he traveled in Europe for three years.

A Sociedade Astronômica Riograndense, hoje Associação Astronômica Riograndense (SARG), é uma entidade que reúne astrônomos amadores, profissionais e aficcionados da astronomia e das ciências em geral. Foi fundada em 16 de setembro de 1979, em Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil, por iniciativa de um grupo de estudantes brasileiros e portugueses (ver primeira foto abaixo, de 1981). Reuniam-se semanalmente no subsolo do então Planetário Municipal José Baptista Pereira, hoje Planetário da UFRGS; hoje os encontros físicos são menos frequentes graças à internet, que permite o contacto ininterrupto entre os associados.
