SALMONELLOSIS

Salmonellosis is an infection with Salmonella bacteria. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps 6 to 72 hours after infection. In most cases, the illness lasts 3 to 7 days—most affected persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient becomes dangerously dehydrated and must be taken to a hospital. At the hospital, the patients will receive intravenous fluids to treat their dehydration and medications may be given to provide symptomatic relief, like fever reduction. In severe cases, the Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness. Some people afflicted with Salmonellosis later experience reactive arthritis, which can have long-lasting, disabling effects.

La salmonellose est une infection bactérienne due aux entérobactéries de type Salmonella à l'exception des Salmonella Typhi et paratyphi. La plupart des personnes infectées par les Salmonella développent de la diarrhée, de la fièvre, et des crampes abdominales dans un délai de 12 à 48 heures après l'infection. La maladie dure en général de 4 à 7 jours, et la plupart des personnes récupèrent sans traitement. Pourtant, chez certaines personnes la diarrhée peut être sévère au point d'imposer l'hospitalisation du patient. Chez ces patients, l'infection à Salmonella peut proliférer des intestins à la circulation sanguine, et de là vers d'autres sites du corps et peut aller jusqu'à entraîner la mort sauf si la personne est traitée rapidement (notamment par des antibiotiques). Les personnes âgées, les enfants, les femmes enceintes et ceux qui ont des maladies provoquant des déficiences immunitaires ont plus de risques de contracter cette maladie.

Eine Salmonellose ist eine von Salmonellen verursachte infektiöse Gastroenteritis, die aufgrund mangelnder Hygienemaßnahmen durch den Genuss verseuchten Trinkwassers bzw. den Verzehr infektiöser Lebensmittel hervorgerufen wird und daher auch als Lebensmittelvergiftung bezeichnet werden kann. Es sind an die 2500 verschiedenen Salmonella-Serotypen bekannt. Im April 2004 wurde die Unterart Salmonella choleraesuis entdeckt, die gegen die meisten bisher verfügbaren Antibiotika resistent ist. Eine Infektion mit diesem sehr virulenten Erreger kann tödlich verlaufen.Die wesentlichen durch Salmonellen verursachten Erkrankungen sind:Brech-Durchfall durch Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella typhimurium u.a. als Salmonellose im engeren Sinn oder SalmonellenenteritisTyphus durch Salmonella typhiParatyphus durch Salmonella paratyphi Da sich Typhus und Paratyphus als systemische Erkrankungen mit Darmbeteiligung im Krankheitsbild von der gewöhnlichen Salmonellose deutlich unterscheiden, werden diese dort behandelt.

Salmonelloza, salmoneloza – wywołująca zapalenia jelita cienkiego i grubego choroba zakaźna układu pokarmowego, spowodowana zakażeniem bakterią chorobotwórczą z rodzaju Salmonella. Nazwa pochodzi od nazwiska odkrywcy, amerykańskiego uczonego Daniela Salmona.Do zakażenia dochodzi drogą pokarmową po spożyciu pokarmów zawierających bakterię salmonelli, po około 12-24 godzinach dochodzi do wystąpienia pierwszych objawów chorobowych. Należą do nich:kurczowe bóle brzuchabiegunkagorączkawymiotyPrzyczyną zakażenia często są lody, wyroby cukiernicze lub garmażeryjne. Niekiedy źródłem zakażenia mogą być pracownicy będący nosicielami salmonelli, którzy mają styczność z produkcją żywności. Źródłem zakażenia mogą być również różne gatunki gadów np. żółwie, z których większość jest nosicielami salmonelli. Zapobieganie polega na spożywaniu świeżych produktów spożywczych, dokładnym myciu jajek wrzącą wodą, przechowywaniu produktów w lodówce, nie spożywaniu podczas upałów ciast z kremem i sałatek z majonezem. Należy także unikać jaj kaczych, które bardzo często są skażone salmonellą. Dobrym sposobem na uniknięcie salmonelli jest dokładne i w miarę częste mycie rąk wodą z mydłem, zwłaszcza w kontaktach ze zwierzętami (ptactwem, gadami) a także w przypadku obcowania z produktami spożywczymi.
