Die Sturmabteilung (kurz SA) war die paramilitärische Kampforganisation der NSDAP während der Weimarer Republik und spielte als Schlägertruppe eine entscheidende Rolle beim Aufstieg der Nationalsozialisten. Nach der Machtergreifung kurzzeitig auch als Hilfspolizei eingesetzt, verlor die SA im Sommer 1934 nach der Beseitigung und Ermordung ihrer Führungsspitze zur Abwehr eines, der nationalsozialistischen Propaganda zufolge angeblichen „Röhm-Putsches“ (auch: „Röhm-Revolte“) in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus weitgehend an Bedeutung.
