Russian Empire
The Russian Empire (Pre-reform Russian orthography: Россійская Имперія, Modern Russian: Российская Империя, translit: Rossiyskaya Imperiya) was a state that existed from 1721 until the Russian Revolution of 1917. It was the successor to the Tsardom of Russia and the predecessor of the short-lived Russian Republic, which was succeeded by the Soviet Union. It was one of the largest empires in world history, surpassed in landmass only by the British and Mongol empires: at one point in 1866, it stretched from eastern Europe across Asia and into North America.

Russisches Reich
Russisches Reich oder Russisches Imperium (russisch Российская Империя, Rossijskaja Imperija, Schreibweise vor der Rechtschreibreform von 1918: Россійская Имперія) war der 1721 von Zar Peter dem Großen eingeführte offizielle Name für das bis dahin bestehende Zarentum Russland. Auslöser war die durch den Sieg über die Großmacht Schweden im Großen Nordischen Krieg erlangte Vormachtstellung Russlands in Ost- und Nordeuropa sowie Peters allgemeine Bestrebungen zur Reformierung des russischen Staatswesen nach westeuropäischem Vorbild. Im offiziellen Sprachgebrauch ersetzte die bis dahin nur gelegentlich verwendete hellenisierte Form Rossija nun endgültig das Wort Rus.

Russie impériale
Le terme Russie impériale est utilisé pour couvrir la période historique depuis l'expansion de la Russie sous Pierre le Grand (de la mer Baltique à l’océan Pacifique) jusqu'à la déposition de Nicolas II, le dernier Tsar, au début de la Révolution de 1917.

Tsarryssland
Tsarryssland (Российская империя, Rossijskaja imperija, "Ryska imperiet") är en benämning på Ryssland under den tid landet var ett envälde (autokrati) under tsaren. Ibland sätts den bortre tidsgränsen vid 1721, när ovanstående ryska statsnamn antogs, den främre tidsgränsen inföll vid Nikolaj II:s abdikation 1917.

Imperium Rosyjskie
Imperium Rosyjskie (ros: Российская империя) – oficjalna nazwa Rosji w latach 1721-1917. Imperium rosyjskie było jednym z najrozleglejszych imperiów w historii ludzkości.
Stolicą imperium był Sankt Petersburg. Nazwa Imperium Rosyjskie została ustanowiona po zwycięstwie Rosji w wojnie północnej 1700-21, w związku z przyjęciem 1721 przez Piotra I Wielkiego tytułu cesarza (imperatora); używana do rewolucji lutowej 1917 (do abdykacji Mikołaja II).
Śmierć Piotra Wielkiego (1725) na długie lata osłabiła kraj. Dopiero panująca w latach 1762-1796 Katarzyna II przywróciła Rosji rolę mocarstwa. Zwycięskie wojny z Turkami (1768-1774, 1787-1792) otworzyły szeroki dostęp do Morza Czarnego, 1783 Rosja anektowała Krym, poprzez uczestnictwo w rozbiorach (1772, 1793, 1795) zyskała wschodnie ziemie Polski.
