Rufinus
- För den samtida kyrkoläraren, se Rufinus av Aquileja.
Rufinus, östromersk statsman, född i Elusa i Gallien, död 395. Rufinus svingade sig under Theodosius den store upp till en ansedd och inflytelserik ställning. Efter Theodosius’ död (395) försökte han få sin dotter förmäld med kejsaren Arcadius, men planen omintetgjordes genom eunucken Eutropius. Man har påstått, att Rufinus sedan stämplade mot kejsaren och hemligen eggade goter och hunner till anfall. Snart fick han dock en farlig fiende i den västerländske fältherren Stilicho, vilken antagligen förmådde befälhavaren för de gotiska trupperna från Österlandet, Gainas, att låta döda Rufinus år 395.

Flawiusz Rufin
Flawiusz Rufin (łac. Flavius Rufinus, Rufin, ur. ok. 335, zm. 27 listopada 395) - prefekt pretorium, główny doradca od roku 392 cesarza Teodozjusza I a potem Arkadiusza.
Rufin był zaciekłym wrogiem pogan i heretyków, pełnił funkcję pierwszego ministra podczas wyprawy przeciw uzurpatorowi Eugeniuszowi. Znienawidzony przez lud rzymski za chciwość, okrucieństwo i nadużycia. Konfiskował z byle powodu majątki, sprzedawał urzędy, wydawał bardzo surowe wyroki. Usiłował pozyskać dla siebie poparcie kleru walcząc z poganami i heretykami a zarazem budując klasztory i kaplice. Został zamordowany przez powracającego z wyprawy wojennej przeciw wizygotom Gainasa w miejscowości Hebdomon pod Konstantynopolem dnia 27 listopada 395 roku na oczach cesarza Arkadiusza. Następcą Rufina na urzędzie był Eutropiusz.
