Rubiaceae

Rubiaceae is a family of flowering plants, variously called the madder, bedstraw, or coffee family. Other common plants included here are  gardenia, cinchona, sweet woodruff, partridgeberry, gambier, ixora, and noni. A number of traditionally accepted families (Dialypetalanthaceae, Henriqueziaceae, Naucleaceae, and Theligonaceae) are now incorporated within the Rubiaceae following genetic research by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group. As now circumscribed, there are about 600 genera and more than 10,000 species in the Rubiaceae.

La famiglia delle Rubiaceae è una famiglia di Angiosperme che comprende specie prevalentemente legnose. La famiglia è cosmopolita ma la maggior parte delle specie si trovano ai Tropici. La recente classificazione dell'Angiosperm Phylogeny Group fa confluire nelle Rubiaceae alcune famiglie che in classificazioni precedenti venivano considerate separatamente (es. Dialypetalanthaceae, Henriqueziaceae, Naucleaceae e Theligonaceae). Secondo la definizione attuale la famiglia comprende 600 generi e più di 10.000 specie.
