The Royal Victorian Order is a dynastic order of knighthood recognising distinguished personal service to the order's Sovereign, the reigning monarch of the Commonwealth realms, any members of her family, or any of her viceroys. Established in 1896, the order's chapel is the Savoy Chapel, its official day is 20 June, and its motto is Victoria, alluding to the society's founder, Queen Victoria. There are no limits on the number of inductees, and admission remains the personal gift of the monarch, with each of the organisation's five hierarchical grades and one medal with three levels representing different levels of service. While all members receive the ability to use the prescribed styles of the order the top two levels grant titles of knighthood, and all accord distinct post-nominal letters the Royal Victorian Order's precedence amongst other honours differs from realm to realm, and admission to some grades may be barred by government policy. Though similarly named, the Royal Victorian Order is not related to the Royal Victorian Chain.

Królewski Order Wiktorii (ang.The Royal Victorian Order - brytyjski order. Został ustanowiony przez królową Wiktorię 21 kwietnia 1896 r. Przyznawany jest osobom, które oddały szczególne zasługi osobie monarchy brytyjskiego. Główną przyczyną powstania orderu był fakt, iż dwa pozostałe odznaczenia, które monarcha brytyjski może nadawać bez konsultacji z rządem - Order Podwiązki i Order Ostu - mają ściśle limitowaną liczbę jednocześnie żyjących kawalerów. Ponadto należą one do najwyższych honorów państwowych i winny być przyznawane tylko postaciom najwybitniejszym. Królewski Order Wiktorii może być nadawany bez żadnych ograniczeń, wobec czego jest najczęściej stosowaną formą symbolicznych podziękowań monarchów dla swoich współpracowników czy osób w inny sposób zasłużonych dla nich.

De Koninklijke Orde van Victoria (Engels:"Royal Victorian Order" werd op 21 april 1896 door Koningin Victoria van het Verenigd Koninkrijk ingesteld als huisorde. De Britse regering heeft geen zeggenschap over de orde die wordt verleend voor " persoonlijke diensten aan de soeverein", al is de koning, de soeverein van de orde, steeds gebonden aan zijn rol als constitutioneel koning. De orde speelt een rol bij het belonen van de medewerkers van de koninklijke huishouding en de hofhouding maar zij wordt ook veel verleend bij staatsbezoeken. De Orde kent een soeverein, een grootmeester (van 1937 tot haar dood was dit de koningin en latere koningin-moeder Elizabeth) en vijf graden. De Grootmeestersstoel is vacant en er zal geen nieuwe grootmeester worden benoemd. In 1936 werd de orde ook voor dames opengesteld.
