Rosh Hashanah
This article is about the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. For the tractate in the Talmud with the same name, see Rosh Hashanah (Talmud). Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה, Biblical: , Israeli: , Yiddish: ) is literally translated as "head of the year", and idiomatically refers to the Jewish New Year. The term first appears in the Tanakh, in Ezekiel 40:1. There, however, it does not refer specifically to the first day of the year, but to the "beginning" of the year.
