Ronnie James Dio

Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona on July 10, 1942 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA), is an American heavy metal vocalist who has performed with Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf, and his own band Dio. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser Hear 'n Aid. He is widely hailed as one of the best singers in heavy metal; renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He is currently collaborating on a project with former Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice, which is going under the name Heaven and Hell. On January 17 2007, he was inducted into the Rock Walk of Fame at Guitar Center on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard.

Zaliczany do grona osób mających największy wpływ na rozwój kierunku muzyki hard rock, heavy i melodic metal. Zasłynął swoim "dzikim głosem" i jako pierwszy rozpropagował symbol do dziś znany i używany wśród fanów metalu – corna (kojarzone z rogami szatana) . Znany przede wszystkim jako wokalista Dio i następca Ozzy'ego Osbourne'a w Black Sabbath.

È considerato una delle voci più caratteristiche ed imitate della scena metal e molti ritengono che abbia diffuso il gesto delle corna nella sottocultura heavy metal, anche se esistono incertezze su chi l'abbia introdotto. Secondo una versione fornita dallo stesso cantante, l'atto deriverebbe direttamente dal classico gesto apotropaico di origini Abruzzesi, che sua nonna faceva spesso.
