Rhodes (Greek: Ρόδος Rhódhos; Italian Rodi; Ladino: Rodi or Rodes; Rodos) is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population, situated in eastern Aegean Sea. This Greek island lies approximately 11 miles (18 km) to the west of the Turkish shores, situated between the Greek mainland and the island of Cyprus. As of 2001, it has a population of 117,007 of which 53,709 reside in the capital city of the island.

Rhodes (en grec  / Ródos) est une île grecque, la plus grande île du Dodécanèse (douze îles), entre la mer Egée et la Méditerranée. Elle est située au sud-est de la mer Égée, à 17,7 km de la Turquie, entre la Grèce et l'île de Chypre. La population en 2004 est estimée à 100 000 habitants.

Rhodos (, Ródos ; , Rhódos) ist die Hauptinsel der griechischen Inselgruppe Dodekanes („zwölf Inseln“) in der Ost-Ägäis. Auf der 1.398 km² großen  Insel leben ungefähr 125.000 Einwohner, davon etwa die Hälfte in der  Stadt Rhodos, Hauptort und touristisches Zentrum im Norden der Insel.Das Wort „Rhodos“ leitet sich von altgr.  (Rose) ab, womit zumindest heutzutage der Hibiskus gemeint ist. Das Wappentier von Rhodos ist der springende Hirsch (Elafos). Bis 1982 wurde „Rhodos“ im Neugriechischen wie im Altgriechischen mit Hauchzeichen geschrieben.

Rodos (gr. Ρόδος Rhódhos) – wyspa na Morzu Egejskim, o powierzchni 1,4 tys. km², największa w archipelagu Dodekanezu (Sporadów Południowych). Położona na granicy trzech kontynentów: Europy, Azji i Afryki, obecnie należy do Grecji. Oddalona zaledwie o 20 km od wybrzeża Turcji wyspa ta ma 80 km dł., a w najszerszym miejscu mierzy 40 km; jej obwód wynosi 250 km. Najwyższy szczyt to góra Ataviros (1215 m n.p.m.). Wyspa ma ok. 100 tys. mieszkańców, z czego 60% mieszka w stolicy – czyli w mieście Rodos, a pozostała część to mieszkańcy 48 małych miast i wsi.

Rodi, dal greco Ρόδος (Rodos), pronuncia: Ròdhos), è la più grande delle isole del Dodecaneso e la più orientale delle maggiori isole del mar Egeo. È situata a circa 17,7 Km dalle coste della Turchia. La popolazione ammonta a 130.000 persone (2004), di cui circa 60÷70.000 risiedono nella città di Rodi, il centro maggiore. Rodi è la capitale della prefettura del Dodecaneso e della Provincia di Rodi, che include anche le vicine isole di Symi, Tilos, Halki e Kastellòrizo (Castelrosso).
