The Rhine-Ruhr Area in Germany ranks among the large metropolitan areas in the world, with 11,233,678 people. It lies completely within the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia and spreads from the Ruhr area megalopolis in the north to the urban areas of the cities of Düsseldorf (provincial capital), Wuppertal, Cologne and Bonn in the south.
