Modern regions of Greece
The current official regional administrative divisions of Greece  were instituted in 1987. Although best translated into English as "regions", the transcription peripheries is sometimes used, perhaps to distinguish them from the traditional regions which they replaced. The English word 'periphery' is derived from the , which in Greek (but not in English) also means 'region'. There are 13 regions (nine on the mainland and four island groups), which (until 2010) were further subdivided into the now abolished 54 prefectures.

Periferie della Grecia
Amministrativamente la Grecia è suddivisa in 13 periferie (in greco περιφέρειες, perifereies) nove sulla terraferma e 4 consistenti in gruppi di isole. Le periferie sono a loro volta divise in 51 prefetture. In aggiunta alle periferie è presente una regione autonoma, il Monte Athos (Ayion Oros, o "Monte Sacro"); uno stato monastico sotto la sovranità della Grecia, situato sulla più orientale delle tre penisole della Calcidica (Macedonia Centrale), che si affacciano sul Mare Egeo.

Regio's van Griekenland
Griekenland is verdeeld in 13 regio's of periferieën (Grieks: περιφέρειες = peripheriës), waarvan er negen op het vasteland liggen en vier uit eilanden bestaan. De regio's zijn zelf weer onderverdeeld in 51 departementen (Grieks: νομοί = nomi, enkelvoud: νομός = nomos).

Aan het hoofd van een regio staat een periferiarch. Deze wordt benoemd door de minister van Binnenlandse Zaken.

De regio's zijn, corresponderend met de nummers op de kaart rechts en met de Griekse namen tussen haakjes:
1. Attika (Αττική)
2. Centraal-Griekenland (Στερεά Ελλάδα)
3. Centraal-Macedonië (Κεντρική Μακεδονία)
4. Kreta (Κρήτη)
5. Oost-Macedonië en Thracië (Ανατολική Μακεδονία και Θράκη)
6. Epirus (Ήπειρος)
7. Ionische Eilanden (Ιόνια νησιά)
8. Noord-Egeïsche Eilanden (Βόρειο Αιγαίο)
9. Peloponnesos (Πελοποννησος)
10. Zuid-Egeïsche Eilanden (Νότιο Αιγαίο)
11. Thessalië (Θεσσαλία)
12. West-Griekenland (Δυτική Ελλάδα)
13. West-Macedonië (Δυτική Μακεδονία)

Organización territorial de Grecia
Las periferias (περιφέρειες) son las subdivisiones de Grecia. Existen en total 13 periferias (9 de ellas en la parte continental y 4 están formadas por grupos de islas), las cuales están subdivididas en 51  prefecturas.

Además de las zonas mencionadas, existe una región autónoma, llamada Monte Athos, una región administrativa independiente de Grecia.
