Finland consists of 19 regions called in Finnish and in Swedish. The regions are governed by regional councils, which serve as forums of cooperation for the municipalities of a region. The main tasks of the regions are regional planning and development of enterprise and education. In addition, the public health services are usually organized on the basis of regions. Currently, the only region where a popular election is held for the council is Kainuu. Other regional councils are elected by municipal councils, each municipality sending representatives in proportion to its population.

Die Landschaften Finnlands (finn. maakunnat, schwed. landskap; auch als Provinzen Finnlands bezeichnet) sind eine Verwaltungsgliederung Finnlands. Sie haben ihren Ursprung in den aus der Zeit der schwedischen Herrschaft stammenden historischen Landschaften Finnlands und wurden 1994 offiziell institutionalisiert.

La Finlande compte 20 régions (ou districts), maakunta en finnois, landskap en suédois. Cet échelon administratif résulte de la réforme de 1997.

I Finland finns nio historiska landskap (se artikeln Historiska landskap i Finland), men i samband med länsreformen år 1997 infördes en ny kommunalrättslig enhet i form av sekundärkommuner, som benämns landskapsförbund. Det finns 20 sådana, och i Finland är det numera i regel dem man menar när man talar om landskap. De nya landskapen bygger till stor del på ytterligare indelning av de historiska landskapen.
