Regions of France
France is divided into 27 administrative regions (, ), 22 of which are in Metropolitan France, and five of which are overseas. Corsica is a territorial collectivity (French collectivité territoriale), but is considered a region in mainstream usage, and is even shown as such on the INSEE website. Each mainland region and Corsica are further subdivided into departments, ranging in number from 2 to 8 per region for the metropolitan ones whereas the overseas regions technically consist of only one department. The term region was officially created by the Law of Decentralisation (2 March 1982), which also gave regions their legal status. The first direct elections for regional representatives took place on 16 March 1986.

Une région peut être soit :- un territoire qui correspond à une division administrative dans certains pays :
- la Commission européenne a décomposé l'Europe en régions appelées aussi «NUTS» (Nomenclature d'Unités Territoriales Statistiques) :
- l'Angleterre est divisée en 9 régions ;
- la Belgique est composée de 3 Régions : Région flamande, Région wallonne, Région de Bruxelles-Capitale ;
- la République du Congo est composée de 10 régions congolaises ;
- la France est composée de 26 régions dont 22 en métropole et 4 outre-mer ;
- l'Italie est composée de 20 régions italiennes, dont 5 à statut spécial ;
- La République des Philippines est divisée en 17 régions ou rehiyon;
- le Québec est composé de 17 régions administratives ;

Région française
La France est divisée en 26 régions, dont 22 régions situées en France métropolitaine (l'une d'entre elles, la Corse, étant plus spécifiquement une collectivité territoriale) et 4 régions d'outre-mer. Mayotte devrait devenir une région d'outre-mer en 2011.

Region
En region, från latinets regio, är en geografisk term avseende områden av mycket olika storlek. Det kan vara allt från indelning av Världen eller av en världsdel (transnationella regioner) till ett mycket litet område, som köksregion. Företag och myndigheter kan också använda begreppet för de områden inom vilken verksamheten bedrivs.

Frankrikes regioner
Frankrike har en administrativ indelning i 26 regioner (franska régions), varav 22 finns i France métropolitaine (den del av Frankrike som ligger inom Europa) och fyra är utomeuropeiska regioner (régions d'outre-mer). De förstnämnda regionerna är i sin tur uppdelade i mellan två till åtta departement (franska département), medan de utomeuropeiska regionerna utgör varsitt departement.

Region (Francja)
Region - najwyższy szczebel podziału administracyjnego Francji.
W latach 60. i 70. władze francuskie doszły do wniosku, że podział na departamenty jest niewystarczający. Planowanie strategiczne w tak małych jednostkach jest niemożliwe. Dlatego w roku 1972 powołano do życia nowe regiony administracyjne - regions de programme - które grupują od 2 do 8 departamentów. Ich granice i nazwy nawiązują często do starych nazw historycznych (np. Owernia, Pikardia, Lotaryngia). Tylko kilka posiada nazwy geograficzne (np. Rodan-Alpy, Centre) lub kombinacje nazw historycznych i geograficznych (np. Szampania-Ardeny).

Region (geografia)
Region - umownie wydzielony obszar, względnie jednorodny, odróżniający się od terenów sąsiednich cechami naturalnymi bądź nabytymi na przestrzeni dziejów. Do tych cech zaliczamy: położenie geograficzne, odrębność językową, religijną, etniczną zamieszkującej region społeczności.
Regiony wydziela się (regionalizacja) w celu przestrzennego usystematyzowania materiału naukowego.
Wyodrębnia się regiony naturalne (regiony fizycznogeograficzne), kulturowe (o wspólnych cechach kulturowych), gospodarcze (o wspólnych centrach bądź powiązaniach gospodarczych; regiony przemysłowe, rolnicze, itp.), czy administracyjne (wyodrębnione prawnie jednostki administracji terenowej - podział administracyjny).
