Refused

Refused was a hardcore punk band originating from Umeå, Sweden. They formed in January 1992 with Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Pär Hansson and Jonas Lidgren and released their first demo, Refused, the same year. The band went on to release one more demo, five EPs and three albums (not including The Demo Compilation or The EP Compilation) before breaking up in 1998. Refused's final line-up consisted of the members Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Kristofer Steen and Jon Brännström who released everything from Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent (1996) to the definitive album The Shape of Punk to Come. In this album, Refused drew heavily on the influence of the Washington, D.C. hardcore band, Nation of Ulysses, New York hardcore band Born Against, as well as the writings of Karl Marx, anarchist Errico Malatesta, and the Situationist International. The band were already well known for their vegan and straight edge stances. Refused broke up the same year as a result of expending all their creative energy and wanting different things. Lead singer Dennis Lyxzén went on to form The (International) Noise Conspiracy, and 93 Million Miles while the other members, as well as venturing into their own projects, formed the group TEXT. Dennis Lyxzén and David Sandström also got together with other friends in 2004 to make the self titled The Lost Patrol Band album. Kristofer Steen is now a director and made a documentary on the band's last year in existence called Refused Are Fucking Dead.

Refused war eine schwedische Hardcore-Punkband, die im Januar 1992 aus der Band Step Forward entstand. Dennis Lyxzén und David Sandström waren die Gründer von Refused, die sich stark an Hardcore-Punkbands wie Gorilla Biscuits orientierten, aber stets mit einem Metaleinfluss. Ihr erster Auftritt bestand aus zwei Eigenkompositionen, sowie einem AC/DC- und vier Gorilla Biscuits-Covern. Die Band hat sich am 6. Oktober 1998 nach einem letzten Konzert aufgelöst. Einer der Gründe dafür war, dass sie sich von den Medien nicht verstanden fühlten.

Refused to szwedzki zespół grający hardcore punk. Grupa została utworzona w styczniu 1992 roku w Umei, zakończyła działalność w 1998 roku. Na twórczość Refused wpływ miały zespoły Nation of Ulysses, Born Against, myśliciele/działacze Karol Marks, Errico Malatesta oraz Sytuacjoniści. Zespół reprezentował postawy straight edge oraz weganizm. Ich muzyka, określana też mianem post hardcore, miała wiele odniesień: od punk rocka przez hardcore do szeroko pojętej muzyki elektronicznej. Ostatnia płyta zespołu zatytułowana "The Shape of Punk to Come" ("Przyszła forma punka") wyznaczyła nowy szlak w muzyce hardcore punk.

I Refused sono una band hardcore punk originaria di Umeå, in Svezia formata nel gennaio 1992 da Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Pär Hansson e Jonas Lidgren. Nello stesso anno hanno rilasciato la loro prima demo, Refused. La band ha inciso un'altra demo, cinque EPs e tre album (non comprese le raccolte The Demo Compilation e The EP Compilation) prima di sciogliersi nel 1998. La formazione finale era formata da Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Kristofer Steen e Jon Brännström che hanno pubblicato Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent (1996) e l'ultimo album The Shape of Punk to Come. In questo album, sui Refused hanno influito pesantemente altre band hardcore, come Nation di Ulysses, Born Against, così come le opere di Karl Marx, di Errico Malatesta e del Situationist International. La band era anche ben conosciuta per lo stile di vita vegan e straight edge. I Refused si sciolsero quello stesso anno dopo aver consumato tutta la loro energia creativa e per voler tentare cose nuove. Il cantante Dennis Lyxzén ha formato i The (International) Noise Conspiracy ed i 93 Million Miles mentre gli altri membri hanno formato il gruppo TEXT. Dennis Lyxzén e David Sandström sono anche riusciti insieme ad altri amici nel 2004 a formare i The Lost Patrol Band.
