Recovery Plan is a program in the USA to develop protocols for protecting and enhancing rare and endangered species populations. The United States Environmental Protection Agency, under authority of the U.S. Congress via the Endangered Species Act, implemented this program beginning in the early 1970s. By the year 2005 thousands of species in the U.S. have had an approved Recovery Plan prepared. This program is a precursor of Biodiversity Action Plans recognized as important to the international community in the year 1992.
