The true frogs, family Ranidae, have the widest distribution of any frog family. They are abundant throughout most of the world, occurring on most continents except Antarctica. The true frogs are present in North America, northern South America, Europe, Asia, Madagascar, Africa, and from the East Indies to New Guinea; the species native to Australia—the Australian Wood Frog (Hylarana daemelii)—is restricted to the far north.

Die Echten Frösche (Ranidae) bilden eine Familie innerhalb der Froschlurche (Anura), die weltweit verbreitet ist. Auf Grönland, in der Antarktis, auf den Karibik-Inseln, in den Wüstengebieten Nordafrikas, auf der Arabischen Halbinsel sowie im mittleren und südlichen Südamerika und im größten Teil Australiens fehlt sie natürlicherweise.

Äkta grodor (Ranidae) är en familj stjärtlösa groddjur. I familjen ingår ca 700 arter utspridda över hela världen, med undantag för Antarktis. I Australien förekommer dock blott en enda art Rana daemelii.
