Ramadhan

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان, , Ramazan in Iran, Pakistan, India, Turkey and other countries) is a Muslim religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when the Qur'an was revealed. The name "Ramadan" is taken from the name of this month; the word itself derived from an Arabic word for intense heat, scorched ground, and shortness of rations. It is considered the most venerated and blessed month of the Islamic year. Prayers, sawm (fasting), charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time; religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month.

Le mois de ramadan (en arabe , ) est le neuvième du calendrier musulman. La langue française emploie indifféremment le mot « ramadan » pour désigner ce mois et, par métonymie, le jeûne, le saoum , l'un des cinq Piliers de l'islam prescrits par le prophète Mahomet à ses fidèles. Au cours de ce mois, les musulmans ne mangent ni ne boivent rien de l'aube au crépuscule. Le mois prend fin avec l’Aïd el-Fitr, la fête de la rupture du jeûne, qui est l'occasion de festivités.

Il Ramadan , di 30 giorni, è il nono mese dell'anno, secondo il calendario musulmano. La parola, in arabo, significa "mese caldo", poiché molte volte coincide con i mesi estivi.Il Ramadan, per la rigorosa osservanza del digiuno diurno che ostacola il lavoro e per il carattere festivo delle sue notti, costituisce un periodo eccezionale dell'anno: la sua sacralità è fondata sulla tradizione già fissata nel Corano, secondo cui in questo mese sarebbe 'discesa' la (prima?) rivelazione su Maometto. In origine, il mese di Ramadan era, come il suo nome stesso (il 'torrido') mostra, un mese estivo; ma successivamente Maometto stesso adottò un calendario puramente lunare di dodici mesi che, perciò, cambia posizione anno per anno.
