Raiden
Raiden (雷電) ou Raijin (雷神) est le dieu du tonnerre et des éclairs de la mythologie japonaise. Son nom vient du mot japonais rai (雷, tonnerre) et den (電, éclair) ou jin (神, dieu).
Il est souvent décrit comme un démon frappant des tambours pour créer le tonnerre. Selon la tradition, c'est Raiden qui serait à l'origine de la faillite de la tentative d'invasion mongole du Japon en 1274 alors qu'il créa Kamikaze, le typhon qui arreta l'avancée mongole. Il est le compagnon de Raijû l'« animal tonnerre ».

Raiden
Plotka głosi, że na pierwszy turniej otrzymał osobiście zaproszenie od Shang Tsunga. Raiden przybrał ludzką postać, aby rywalizować w turnieju. W drugim turnieju powraca, jednak zły z powodu porażek Shao Kahn atakuje Ziemię bez ostrzeżenia. Raiden mobilizuje wtedy siedmiu wojowników Ziemi do walki z najeźdźcą - sam zaś musi uciekać. Zostaje zmuszony do powrotu po pokonaniu Shao Kahna z powodu ataku oddziałów Shinnoka. Jest przedostatnim bogiem z czwartej części (oprócz Fujina - boga wiatru). Musi więc pomóc zakończyć rządy Quan Chi'ego. W Mortal Kombat Armageddon sprzymierza się z Shao Kahnem.
