Ragnarok

RagNaRok is the fifth album, released in 1995 on Metal Blade Records, by the rock/heavy metal/punk band GWAR. This album contains the most varied vocal stylings of any GWAR album, as the majority of the band lends their lungs to the tracklist (only We Kill Everything features as many different vocalists), as well as guest villain Cardinal Syn.

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök ("Fate of the Gods" ) is the final battle waged between the  Æsir, led by Odin, and the various forces of the giants or Jötnar, including Loki, followed by the destruction of the world and its subsequent rebirth. Not only will most of the gods, giants and monsters involved perish in this apocalyptic conflagration, but almost everything in the universe will be torn asunder and destroyed.

Dans la mythologie nordique, le Ragnarök (vieux norrois signifiant Consommation du Destin des Puissances) réfère à une série majeure d'événements incluant une grande bataille aboutissant à la mort de plusieurs figures importantes (incluant les dieux Odin, Thor, Freyr, Heimdall,et le géant Loki), l'apparition de plusieurs désastres naturels ainsi que la submersion du monde sous les eaux. Par la suite, le monde refait surface, redevenu fertile et prodigue en limon. Les dieux survivants se rencontrent, le monde est alors repeuplé par les deux seuls humains survivants. Ragnarök est un événement important dans les canons scandinaves, et a fait l'objet de plusieurs exposés et théories.

Die Ragnarök (altnordisch „Schicksal der Götter“; aus regin, gen. pl. ragna = „Gott“ + rök = „Ursache, Sinn des Ursprungs“) ist die Sage von Geschichte und Untergang der Götter (Weltuntergang) in der Nordischen Mythologie wie es die Völuspá prophezeit. Das Deutsche übersetzt oft als „Götterdämmerung“ , was nur teils stimmt und auf eine Fehlinterpretation von Snorri Sturluson zurückgeht: während die ältere Lieder-Edda von Ragnarök, dem „Schicksal der Götter“ singt, schreibt er in seiner Prosabearbeitung stets ragna rökr, „Götterdämmerung“ (vgl. altnordisch røkkr, „Dunkelheit“).

Ragnarök lub ragnarek (W. Kopaliński) – w mitologii skandynawskiej zmierzch bogów (Götterdämmerung) i koniec świata. W wyobrażeniach mitologicznych ma on być wielką walką pomiędzy bogami a demonami pod wodzą Lokiego, w wyniku której świat i Asgard, siedzibę bogów, strawi ogień, wszystkie gwiazdy zgasną, a Ziemię zaleje wielkie morze. Ostatecznie z tej toni wyłoni się nowy świat i nastąpi era szczęśliwości bez przemocy i wojen. Mit o ragnaröku powstał zapewne pod wpływem chrześcijańskiej wizji apokaliptycznej. Po raz pierwszy pojawił się w poemacie Völuspá (Przepowiednia wieszczki), zredagowanym pod koniec X wieku.
