RTU also means Roof Top Unit, typically an air conditioner. An RTU, or Remote Terminal Unit is a microprocessor controlled electronic device which interfaces objects in the physical world to a distributed control system or SCADA system by transmitting telemetry data to the system and/or altering the state of connected objects based on control messages received from the system.

In Classical Sanskrit, it refers to an epoch or period, especially one of the six seasons of the year, Vasanta "spring", Grishma "the hot season", Varshas (f. pl.) "the rainy season", Sharada "autumn", Hemanta "winter"; and Shishira "the cool season", or the menstrual cycle.
