Republika Poludniowej Afryki
Republika Południowej Afryki (ang. Republic of South Africa) – państwo na południowym krańcu Afryki.
Jego początki to dwie burskie republiki: Transwal i Orania. Burowie byli potomkami osadników holenderskich przybyłych tu w XVII wieku. Pod koniec XIX wieku wybuchły dwie wojny burskie z Wielką Brytanią. Do roku 1994 w RPA obowiązywał rasistowski system społeczny (apartheid). Postacią symbolizującą walkę z państwem prześladującym czarnych obywateli był Nelson Mandela. Za swój wkład w demokratyczne przemiany Mandela otrzymał w roku 1993 pokojową Nagrodę Nobla. Jednak od czasu przejęcia władzy przez czarnych, gwałtownie pogorszyła się sytuacja gospodarcza i wewnętrzna kraju, a dyskryminowani bywają teraz jego biali mieszkańcy. Mimo to, RPA pozostaje najbogatszym państwem na kontynencie.
