A Request for Proposal (referred to as RFP) is an invitation for suppliers, through a bidding process, to submit a proposal on a specific product or service. An RFP typically involves more than a request for the price. Other requested information may include basic corporate information and history, financial information (can the company deliver without risk of bankruptcy), technical capability (used on major procurements of services, where the item has not previously been made or where the requirement could be met by varying technical means), product information such as stock availability and estimated completion period, and customer references that can be checked to determine a company's suitability.

La Régie française de publicité, connue aussi sous le nom d'RFP était la société qui gérait la publicité des trois chaînes de télévision et des quatre radios du service public audiovisuel français. Crée en 1969, elle survécut à l'éclatement de l'ORTF en 1974 mais perdit son statut de régie publicitaire publique en 1987 lors de la privatisation de TF1 et fut liquidée en 1993.

Eine Ausschreibung ist ein Teil des Verfahrens zur Vergabe von Aufträgen im Wettbewerb. Durch sie werden potentielle Bieter aufgefordert ein Angebot zu unterbreiten. Weitere Formen der wettbewerbsbasierten Preisermittlung sind Auktionen. Nicht zwingend innerhalb des Vergaberechts wird der Begriff auch für Stellenausschreibungen allgemein verwendet.
