Release, letteralmente rilascio, in ambito informatico indica una particolare versione di un software resa disponibile ai suoi utenti, univocamente identificata da altre particolari versioni rese disponibili in precedenza da un particolare numero di versione. Convenzionalmente si distinguono rilasci maggiori (o major release) quando le differenze dalla versione precedente riguardano sostanziali evoluzioni delle funzionalità del prodotto software, e rilasci minori (o minor release) quando le differenze riguardano principalmente correzioni di malfunzionamenti del software.
