RAID

In computing, specifically computer data storage, a Redundant Array of Independent Drives (or Disks), also known as Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives (or Disks), (RAID) is an umbrella term for computer data storage schemes that divide and/or replicate data among multiple hard drives. RAID can be designed to provide increased data reliability or increased I/O (input/output) performance, or both.

En informatique, le mot RAID désigne une technologie permettant de stocker des données sur de multiples disques durs afin d'améliorer, en fonction du type de RAID choisi, la tolérance aux pannes et/ou les performances de l'ensemble.

Ein RAID-System (ursprünglich redundant array of inexpensive disks, heute redundant array of independent disks) dient zur Organisation mehrerer physischer Festplatten eines Computers zu einem logischen Laufwerk, das eine höhere Datensicherheit bei Ausfall einzelner Festplatten und/oder einen größeren Datendurchsatz erlaubt als eine physische Platte. Während die meisten in Computern verwendeten Techniken und Anwendungen darauf abzielen, Redundanzen (das Vorkommen doppelter Daten) zu vermeiden, werden bei RAID-Systemen redundante Informationen gezielt erzeugt, damit beim Ausfall einzelner Komponenten das RAID als Ganzes seine Funktionalität behält.

Als (englisch für „Überfall“, „Raubzug“ o. a.) bezeichnet man in der  Geschichtswissenschaft einen gewaltsamen, überfallartigen militärischen Übergriff auf die Gebiete einer benachbarten Nation, Region oder eines Volksstammes, um die politische und wirtschaftliche Situation des Gegners mit Hilfe blanken Terrors wie Plünderungen, Brandschatzungen, Misshandlungen und Verschleppung von Frauen, Kindern und arbeitsfähigen jungen Männern in die Sklaverei, zu destabilisieren. Die Guerilla-Taktik wird dadurch erreicht, dass sich die Truppen dabei ebenso schnell wie der Überfall erfolgt ist, wieder auf heimisches Gebiet zurückziehen.

Un Redundant Array of Independent Disks ("insieme ridondante di dischi indipendenti", RAID) è un sistema informatico che usa un insieme di dischi rigidi per condividere o replicare le informazioni. I benefici del RAID sono di aumentare l'integrità dei dati, la tolleranza ai guasti e/o le prestazioni, rispetto all'uso di un disco singolo. Nella sua implementazione originaria (nella quale l'acronimo era l'abbreviazione di "Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks", cioè "Insieme ridondante di dischi economici"), il fattore chiave era l'abilità di combinare parecchi dischi a basso costo e obsoleti in modo da rendere il sistema nel suo complesso migliore di un disco di ultima generazione per capacità, affidabilità e/o velocità.
