Rāga (in Sanskrit "Raga" is literally "colour" or "mood") and (rāgam Carnatic music) refers to melodic modes used in Indian classical music. In Indian music, a series of five or more musical notes upon which a melody is founded. In the Indian musical tradition, ragas are held in different times of the day. Indian classical music is always set in raga. Non-classical music such as popular Indian film songs sometimes use ragas in their compositions.

Le Râga ou Râgam en tamoul — terme sanskrit signifiant attirance, couleur ou passion — est un cadre mélodique (à ne pas confondre avec les notions de gamme ou de mode, même s'il y a une certaine affinité avec celles-ci) utilisé dans la musique classique indienne. Les râgas sont fondés sur les théories védiques concernant le son et la musique. Ils ont été fixés par Mâtanga dans son ouvrage Brhaddesi entre les et , mais c'est seulement au qu'ils deviennent partie intégrante du classicisme indien. Chaque râga est lié à un sentiment, une saison, un moment du jour. Cependant cette théorie du moment, qui guide le choix du râga à utiliser au moment du concert, n'est plus strictement respectée.

Der Raga oder Rag (rāg /राग (Hindi), rāgaḥ / रागः (Sanskrit)) oder rāgam / ராகம் (Tamil) stellt die melodische Grundstruktur der klassischen indischen Musik dar. Es handelt sich dabei um eine "Klangpersönlichkeit", die wiederum zu einer feststehenden Tonskala, ähnlich wie die westlichen Kirchentonarten, zugeordnet ist.
