Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS) is a networking protocol that provides centralized Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) management for computers to connect and use a network service. RADIUS was developed by Livingston Enterprises, Inc., in 1991 as an access server authentication and accounting protocol and later brought into the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards.

RADIUS (Akronym für Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service, Authentifizierungsdienst für sich einwählende Benutzer) ist ein Client-Server-Protokoll, das zur Authentifizierung, Autorisierung und zum Accounting (Triple-A-System) von Benutzern bei Einwahlverbindungen in ein Computernetzwerk dient. RADIUS ist der De-facto-Standard bei der zentralen Authentifizierung von Einwahlverbindungen über Modem, ISDN, VPN, WLAN (IEEE 802.1X) und DSL.

Als Radius (von lat. radius; „Strahl“) (deutsch: Halbmesser) bezeichnet man in der Geometrie den Abstand zwischen dem Mittelpunkt M eines Kreises und der Kreislinie. Analog dazu heißt auch bei der Kugel der Abstand zwischen Mittelpunkt und Kugelfläche so.

RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) est un protocole client-serveur permettant de centraliser des données d'authentification. En français on préfère souvent parler d'identification pour traduire l'anglais authentication, car l'identification effectuée par un serveur Radius est une vérification de nom d'utilisateur (attribut 1 User-Name) et de mot de passe (attribut 2 User-Password ou 3 Chap-Password). L'authentification en français est définie comme la vérification approfondie par un expert ou un officier ministériel et correspond à l'anglicisme authentification forte pour "strong authentication", mais l'abus de langage est courant.

En géométrie, le rayon d'un cercle ou d'une sphère est un segment de droite quelconque reliant son centre à sa circonférence. Par extension, le rayon d'un cercle ou d'une sphère est la longueur de chacun de ces segments. Le rayon est la moitié du diamètre. En sciences et en ingénierie, le terme rayon de courbure est souvent utilisé comme synonyme de rayon.
