Quezon City

Quezon City <b title="Pronunciation: ke′zon, /"kEZO:n/" style="position:relative;top:-0.3em;font-size:0.75em;color:#666;">P (Filipino: Lungsod Quezon), is the former capital (1948-1976) and the most populous city in the Philippines. Located on the island of Luzon, Quezon City (popularly known to Filipinos as simply QC) is one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila, the National Capital Region. The city was named after Manuel L. Quezon, the former president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines who founded the city and developed it to replace Manila as the country's capital. Quezon City is not located in and should not be confused with Quezon province, which was also named after the president.

Quezon City (Filipino: Lungsod Quezon) ist die größte Stadt auf den Philippinen. Sie gehört zur Region Metro Manila und liegt auf der Hauptinsel Luzón in direkter Nachbarschaft zur Hauptstadt Manila. Zu den wichtigsten Industriezweigen gehört die Textilindustrie. Von wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung ist außerdem der Fremdenverkehr, und es wird versucht, vermehrt Unternehmen der Computerbranche anzusiedeln. Auch die Universität der Philippinen befindet sich in Quezon-Stadt (gegründet 1908). Weiter befinden sich hier verschiedene Behörden und Ministerien, die philippinische Zentralbank (Tagalog: Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas) und das Repräsentantenhaus der Philippinen (Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan ng Pilipinas).
