Quercy
Quercy (pronounced in
French; ) (
Occitan: Carcin, pronounced , locally ) is a former
province of France located in the southwest of France, bounded on the north by
Limousin, on the west by
Périgord and
Agenais, on the south by
Gascony and
Languedoc, and on the east by
Rouergue and
Auvergne.Today, Quercy is divided between the
département of
Lot (which it makes up in its entirety) and the northern half of the département of
Tarn-et-Garonne. The traditional capital of Quercy is
Cahors, now
préfecture (capital) of the Lot département. The largest town of Quercy is
Montauban, préfecture of Tarn-et-Garonne. However, Montauban lies at the traditional border between Quercy and Languedoc, in an area very different from the rest of Quercy, and it is closer historically and culturally to
Toulouse and the rest of Languedoc, therefore it should be considered a special case, not totally part of Quercy. Also distinct from the rest of the region is the Quercy Blanc lying between Cahors and the southern boundary of the Lot, characterised by its white limestone buildings.

okzitanisch Carcin [], örtlich auch []) ist eine ehemalige
französische Provinz im Südwesten des Landes. Sie grenzt im Norden an das
Limousin, im Westen an
Périgord und
Agenais, im Süden an die
Gascogne und das
Languedoc sowie im Osten an
Rouergue und die
Auvergne.Heute ist Quercy auf die
Départements Lot und
Tarn-et-Garonne aufgeteilt, wobei es den wesentlichen Teil des ersteren und die nördliche Hälfte des letzteren darstellt. Die traditionelle Hauptstadt Quercys ist
Cahors, heute die
Präfektur des Départements Lot. Die größte Stadt hingegen ist
Montauban, die Präfektur von Lot-et-Garonne auf der früheren Grenze zwischen Quercy und Languedoc, einem Gebiet, das sich sehr stark vom Rest der Provinz unterscheidet und historisch und kulturell immer schon an
Toulouse und dem übrigen Languedoc angelehnt war und somit gar nicht als integraler Bestandteils Quercys betrachtet werden sollte.

Quercy fue una provincia de
Francia durante el
Antiguo Régimen con capital en
Cahors, la antigua ciudad de Cadurques o Cadurci y extiendiendose por los territorios de
Souillac a
Montauban pasando por
Figeac. Corresponde aproximadamente al departamento de
Lot, en la época de su creación el año
1789 hasta que una parte importante de Quercy blanco fue separada de este departamento, pasando a formar parte de
Tarn-et-Garonne en
1808, año en que se creó este último.Quercy corresponde al territorio ocupado por la población gala de los Cadurques, es decir a la civitas galo-romana cuyos límites fueron adoptados por las diócesis, en Cahors como en todas las ciudades antiguas, después por la República de Francia, al establecer sus departamentos en 1789.
