Qadian

Qadian (ਕਾਦਿਆਂ ) is a small town and a municipal council in Gurdaspur, north-east of Amritsar, situated 18 km east of Batala city in the state of Punjab, India. From Gurdaspur take Kahnuwan-Kot-Todarmal for about 26 km to reach Qadian.Qadian is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and of the Ahmadiyya Muslim movement he founded.Qadian was established in 1530 CE and Mirza Hadi Baig was the first Qazi (city Magistrate) of this area. On his name the town was known as Qazi. Mirza Hadi Baig was a religious scholar dedicated to Islam. Therefore he named the new town 'Islam Pur Qazi'. With the passage of time, it changed to 'QaziMaji' (The word "Maji" means Bull referring to the animal still found in abundance in Qadian) and then later to just 'Qadi' and eventually came to be known as Qadian.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (ur. 13 lutego 1835, zm. 26 maja 1908) - indyjski reformator religijny. Założyciel Ahmadiyyi.Urodził się w Qadian w Pendżabie na styku islamu i hinduizmu, co wywarło silny wpływ na jego późniejszą działalność. Początkowo był uważany za reformatora islamu (w duchu konserwatywnym), jednak gdy ogłosił się Mahdim, nowym mesjaszem i Jezusem, który powrócił, większość uczonych muzułmańskich uznała go za heretyka. Później ogłosił się kolejnym wcieleniem Kryszny, co jeszcze bardziej oburzyło konserwatystów.

Qadian is een dorp in de Punjab in India. Het is de geboorteplaats van Mirza Ghulam Ahmad en was het eerste hoofdkwartier van de Ahmadiyya Moslim Gemeenschap.
