Puritans

A Puritan of 16th and 17th century England was any person seeking "purity" of worship and doctrine, especially the parties that rejected the Reformation of the Church of England, and those who justified separation from the Church of England following the Elizabethan Religious Settlement are commonly called "Puritans" by historians and critics. However only some Puritans were in favor of separating from the English Church, which was currently under King James I. Most Puritans only wanted to change certain aspects of the church. Later groups are called "puritan", not necessarily favorably, by comparison to these low church Anglicans and Calvinistic Non-conformists.

Der Puritanismus war eine vom 16. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert wirksame Reformbewegung in England und Schottland, die für eine weitreichende Reformation der Kirche nach calvinistischen Grundsätzen eintrat. Die Bezeichnung „Puritaner“ wurde zunächst als Spottname gegen derart gesinnte Laien und Geistliche verwendet und leitet sich von ihren Forderungen nach einer „Reinigung“ der Kirche von „papistischen“, also römisch-katholischen, Lehren her.

Purytanizm - ruch religijno-społeczny w XVI i XVII wiecznej Anglii, mający na celu "oczyszczenie" kościoła anglikańskiego z pozostałości po katolicyzmie w liturgii i teologii. Początkowo działając jako ruch wewnątrz anglikanizmu, purytanie stopniowo oddzielali się od niego tworząc odrębne wspólnoty religijne, czasem nazywane nonkonformistycznymi. W języku potocznym purytanizm to skrajne przejawianie jakichś zasad, szczególnie moralnych.

Een puritein is een aanhanger van het puritanisme. Centraal staan de persoonlijke relatie met God en Christus door het geloof en de levensheiliging van de christen. Dit komt onder meer tot uiting in een intensieve studie van de Bijbel en een strikte zondagsheiliging.
