Punjab (India)
Punjab (, ) (Also spelled Panjab) is a state in northwest India. The Indian state borders the Pakistani province of Punjab to the west, Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Himachal Pradesh to the northeast, Haryana to the south and southeast, Chandigarh to the southeast and Rajasthan to the southwest. The total area of the state is 50,362 square kilometres (19,445 square miles). The population is 24,289,296 (2000). Punjab's capital is Chandigarh, which is administered separately as a Union Territory since it is also the capital of neighbouring Haryana. Other major cities of Punjab include LudhianaAmritsarJalandhar and Patiala. The state is the location of one of the world's first and oldest civilizations, the Indus Valley CivilizationIndia's first civilization.

Patrie des Sikhs, le Panjâb - ou Penjab, littéralement l'État des cinq, panch, rivières, âb - est situé au nord-ouest de l'Inde. Le Penjab original a été partagé entre l'Inde et le Pakistan lors de la partition qui a accompagné l'indépendance des deux nations. Le Pakistan possède ainsi une province aussi appelée Penjab.

Der Punjab (Panjabi, m., ਪੰਜਾਬ, panjāb, []; aus dem Persischen panj āb „fünf Wasser“) ist ein indischer Bundesstaat mit einer Fläche von 50.362 km² und 24.289.296 Einwohnern (Stand 2001).Die Hauptstadt Chandigarh ist auch Hauptstadt des benachbarten Haryanas, an dessen Grenze sie liegt, und wird als Unionsterritorium von der Zentralregierung in Neu-Delhi direkt verwaltet. Die Landessprachen sind PanjabiHindiUrdu und Englisch.

Pendżab sąsiaduje z pakistańską prowincją Pendżab na zachodzie, z Dżammu i Kaszmirem na północy Himachal Pradesh na północnym wschodzie, z Haryana na południu i na południowym wschodzie oraz z terytorium związkowym Czandigarh na południowym wschodzie a z Radżastanem na południowym zachodzie.

Il Punjab (पंजाब) o Panjab è uno stato nel nord ovest dell'India, parte di una più grande regione del Punjab. Le regioni confinanti sono il Punjab pakistano a occidente, Jammu e Kashmir a nord, Himachal Pradesh nel nord-est, Haryana a sud e sud-est e Rajasthan a sud-ovest. L'area totale è di 50 362 chilometri quadrati. La popolazione è 24 000 000 (anno 2000).
