Sassari (Italian: Provincia di Sassari) is a
province in the autonomous island region of
Sardinia in
Italy. Its capital is the city of
Sassari.It has an area of 4,282 km², and a total population of 322,326 (2001). There are 66 municipalities (
comuni) in the province, the largest of which are
Sassari (pop. 120,729 in 2001 census),
Alghero (38,404),
Porto Torres (21,064),
Sorso (12,842), and
