Propeller

A propeller is essentially a type of fan which transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust for propulsion of a vehicle such as an aircraft, ship, or submarine through a fluid such as water or air, by rotating two or more twisted blades about a central shaft, in a manner analogous to rotating a screw through a solid. The blades of a propeller act as rotating wings (the blades of a propeller are in fact wings or airfoils), and produce force through application of both Bernoulli's principle and Newton's third law, generating a difference in pressure between the forward and rear surfaces of the airfoil-shaped blades and by accelerating a mass of air rearward.

Śmigło to urządzenie służące do przetwarzania momentu obrotowego (a ściślej mocy) napędzającego silnika na siłę ciągu. Siła ta powstaje podczas ruchu obrotowego śmigła w wyniku różnicy ciśnienia przed i za powierzchnią składających się na śmigło łopat. Oprócz łopat śmigło posiada również piastę. Niektóre śmigła mają urządzenia do zmiany kąta natarcia (może być zmieniany ręcznie lub automatycznie tzw. skok śmigła}, do ustawienia w tzw. chorągiewkę (po awarii silnika), do odladzania krawędzi natarcia.

L'elica (o elica propulsiva o propulsore ad elica) è un organo intermediario in grado di trasformare la potenza meccanica di un albero rotante in variazione della quantità di moto di un fluido, allo scopo di generare una propulsione secondo il principio di azione e reazione. Il moto impresso al fluido è detto elicoidale e risulta essere la combinazione di un moto assiale e di un moto rotazionale.
