Progressive Metal

Progressive metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal music which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock. Some progressive metal bands are also influenced by jazz fusion and classical music. Like progressive rock songs, progressive metal songs are usually much longer than standard rock songs, and they are often thematically linked in concept albums. As a result, progressive metal is rarely heard on mainstream radio and video programs.

Le metal progressif (ou progressive metal) est une tendance stylistique du heavy metal qui se caractérise par la grande complexité de ses instrumentations, des chansons très structurées et de longue durée, des rythmes et des mesures inhabituelles ainsi qu'une grande variété de mélodies au sein d'une seule et même chanson. Le metal progressif ne jouit pas d'une grande attention médiatique mais reste suivi par un très grand nombre d'amateurs aguerris.

Metal progresywny – podgatunek heavy metalu, który posiada wiele cech rocka progresywnego, w tym złożone struktury kompozycyjne, niestandardowe i zmienne metrum, zawiłe partie instrumentalne. Wysoki poziom artystyczny kompozycji często łączony jest z obszernymi tekstami w formie opowieści epickich, co w rezultacie daje długie utwory (nawet 15-20 minut) i albumy koncepcyjne. Piosenki z tego gatunku rzadko pojawiają się w popularnych programach radiowych i telewizyjnych, głównie ze względu na swoją długość.
