phrase derived from
Latin meaning "for the public good." The term is sometimes used to describe professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment, as a
public service. It is common in the legal profession and is increasingly seen in marketing, technology and strategy consulting firms. Unlike traditional volunteerism, pro bono service leverages the specific skills of professionals to provide services to those who are unable to afford them.

Rechtsanwalt nicht ohne Weiteres auf alle
Gebühren nach dem
Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz (RVG) verzichten darf. Dadurch soll verhindert werden, dass ein Wettlauf um die niedrigsten „Preise“ beginnt und so die Qualität der Beratung sinkt.

latina, que significa "para el bien". Tiene su origen en la frase pro bono publico, "para el bien público". Se utilizada para designar al trabajo generalmente
jurídico, pero bien puede ser de otra profesión u oficio, realizado voluntariamente y sin retribución monetaria. También suele usarse similarmente otra frase latina
ad honorem, literalmente por la honra. Aunque ambas frases pueden considerarse conceptualmente sinónimas, se prefiriere distinguir a ésta última para referirse a trabajos del ámbito privado, y "pro bono" para aquellos en el ámbito público.
