The President of Germany is the head of state of Germany. The current official title is President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The official German name is Bundespräsident (der Bundesrepublik Deutschland). Germany has a parliamentary system of government and so the position of President is largely ceremonial. Nevertheless the president has some important "reserve powers" in case of political instability (such as those provided for by Article 81 of the Basic Law).

Der Bundespräsident ist das Staatsoberhaupt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Durch das Grundgesetz ist seine Macht im politischen System des Landes beschränkt und umfasst vor allem repräsentative Tätigkeiten, weshalb er auch als pouvoir neutre bezeichnet wird. Mit der Entscheidungsgewalt über die Auflösung des Deutschen Bundestages im Falle der vom Bundeskanzler verlorenen Vertrauensfrage und bei der Wahl einer Minderheitsregierung kommt ihm jedoch auch eine wichtige staatspolitische Bedeutung zu. Der Bundespräsident kann der Exekutive zugeordnet werden, er hat allerdings auch Befugnisse außerhalb der Exekutive und wird deswegen teils als „über den drei Gewalten“ stehend betrachtet.

Le président fédéral (Bundespräsident) est le chef de l’État de la république fédérale d’Allemagne conformément à la Loi fondamentale de 1949. Il signe les traités et sa correspondance étrangère avec le titre de président de la république fédérale d’Allemagne (Präsident der Bundesrepublik Deutschland).
