PowerPC 750

PowerPC G3 is a designation used by Apple Computer to a third generation of PowerPC microprocessors from the PowerPC 750 family designed and manufactured by IBM and Motorola/Freescale. The term is often, incorrectly, imagined to be a physical model of processor when in fact a number of processors from different vendors have been used.

G3, d'abord au nom de code Arthur, est un nom commercial inventé fin 1997 par Apple, en référence à la troisième génération des microprocesseurs PowerPC, lors de l'introduction du PowerPC 750. C'est une amélioration du PowerPC 603, microprocesseur de la seconde génération des PowerPC. Malgré tout, il se révèlera bien plus puissant que les PowerPC 603 et 604.

Termin ten jest często niewłaściwie używany jako określenie konkretnego modelu mikroprocesora, podczas gdy mianem tym określano serie mikroprocesorów pochodzących od dwóch producentów - IBM i Motoroli.Procesory PowerPC G3 były używane w komputerach PowerBook G3, iMac, iBook oraz w kilku komputerach typu desktop pod nazwą Power Mac G3. Niski pobór energii czynił go szczególnie przydatnym przy konstruowaniu laptopów. Specjalnie przystosowany do warunków próżni kosmicznej model tego procesora został wykorzystany w sondzie Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Viene utilizzato nei computer Apple Macintosh, in particolare nelle serie PowerBook G3, nei multicolori iMac, negli iBook e in alcuni sistemi desktop, tra cui nei  Power Macintosh G3, e anche nei computer desktop AmigaONE e Pegasos.
