Power Macintosh
Power Macintosh, later Power Mac, was a line of Apple Macintosh workstation-class  personal computers based on various models of PowerPC microprocessors that were developed, marketed, and supported by Apple Inc. from March 1994 until August 2006. The first models were the Power Macintosh 6100, 7100, and 8100, which offered speeds ranging from 60 to 110 MHz. These machines replaced Apple's Quadra series of personal computers, and were housed in cases very similar to systems sold by Apple up to that point. The Power Mac went on to become the mainstay of Apple's top-end offerings for twelve years, through a succession of case designs, four major generations of PowerPC chips, and a great deal of press coverage, design accolades, and technical controversy. In August 2006, the Power Mac's retirement was announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference by Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller, making way for its Intel-based replacement, the Mac Pro.

Apple Power Macintosh
Power Macintosh oder auch Power Mac ist der Produktname für die Macintosh-Modelle der Firma Apple mit PowerPC-Prozessor. Die vorher nur umgangssprachlich benutzte Bezeichnung „Power Mac“ wird von Apple seit den G4-Modellen offiziell verwendet, zugleich wurde der Begriff „Macintosh“ fallen gelassen.

Power Macintosh
Les Power Macintosh, ou Power Mac, sont une famille d'ordinateurs Macintosh commercialisés par la société Apple depuis 1994. Ils succèdent aux Macintosh 68k, basés sur la famille de microprocesseurs m68k de Motorola. Ils sont basés sur des processeurs de la famille PowerPC d'IBM et Motorola.

Les premiers Power Macintosh apparurent en mars 1994 (Power Macintosh 6100, 7100 et 8100). Ils utilisaient au début un émulateur pour faire tourner les applications existantes, conçue pour l'architecture m68k.

Jusqu'en 1997, les Power Macintosh embarquaient des processeurs PowerPC 601, 603 ou 604. Ils furent ensuite basés sur des PowerPC G3, puis G4 et enfin G5.

Les Power Mac G4 introduisaient une particularité, tenant en une troisième unité de calcul vectoriel, en plus du CPU et du FPU. Il s'agissait de l'AltiVec, ou Velocity Engine, qui au lieu de traiter les données sur un seul entier de 32 bits, les traitaient sur un vecteur de 128, permettant de gros gains de puissance sur les calculs vectoriels (traitement d'image et de vidéo). La carte mère était adaptée en conséquence.

Apparus en 2003, les Power Mac G5 ont une architecture basée sur le PowerPC 970 d'IBM (ou G5), dérivé du POWER 4 des serveurs IBM. Il existe aussi des Power Mac bi-processeur (G4 ou G5). Le processeur G5 est 64 bit et il a existé un version avec 2 processeurs bi-cœurs (soit 4 cœurs).

À noter que seuls deux ordinateurs au monde ont été interdits à la vente par le Congrès des États-Unis dans 40 pays ennemis (parmi lesquels l'Iran et la Corée du Nord) : les Power Mac G4 et les Power Mac G5.

Depuis le passage d'Apple aux processeurs Intel, le Power Mac a changé de nom (en 2006) et se nomme maintenant Mac Pro. Il conserve néanmoins le même boîtier que le Power Mac G5. Le Mac Pro embarque deux ou un processeurs Intel Xeon quad cores.

Power Macintosh
Power Macintosh, eller Power Mac, datorserie av märket Macintosh från datortillverkaren Apple som tillverkades mellan 1994 och 2006. Namnet kommer delvis av det faktum att man använde sig av IBM:s PowerPC-processor, men även för att anknyta till den bärbara modellen PowerBook.

Power Mac lub Power Macintosh to linia komputerów osobistych firmy Apple bazowanych na różnych modelach procesorów PowerPC.

Pierwszym komputerem tej linii był Power Macintosh 6100 wprowadzony na rynek w 1994. Był to pierwszy komputer firmy Apple używający procesora PowerPC. Do tego czasu wszystkie komputery produkowane przez Apple używały procesorów serii 68k. W przeciągu następnych dwóch lat Apple całkowicie przestawił się na produkcję komputerów z nowymi procesorami, wycofując ostatnie modele z procesorami serii 68k w roku 1996. Z technicznego punktu widzenia, wszystkie komputery produkowane przez Apple od tego czasu do wprowadzenia pierwszych procesorów firmy Intel w 2005 należą do rodziny Power Mac. Oficjalnie Apple ogranicza tę nazwę do swojej linii komputerów najwyższej klasy komputerów stacjonarnych (desktopów).
