Potomac River
The Potomac River flows into the Chesapeake Bay, located along the mid-Atlantic coast of the United States. The river (main stem and North Branch) is approximately long, with a drainage area of about 14,700 square miles (38,000 km²). In terms of area, this makes the Potomac River the fourth largest river along the Atlantic coast of the United States and the 21st largest in the United States. Over 5 million people live within the Potomac watershed.

Potomac
Potomac är en 670 km lång flod i nordöstra USA, på gränsen mellan Virginia och Maryland. Över fem miljoner människor lever längs Potomacs avrinningsområde. Potomac rinner förbi Washington, D.C.och bildar där gränsen mot Virginiasidan och bl.a. Arlingtonkyrkogården innan den mynnar i Chesapeake Bay. Mount Vernon (George Washingtons privata gård) har orörd utsikt över Potomac och dess strandlinje. Största biflod är Shenandoah River som rinner till från söder i West Virginia.

Il Potomac nasce nelle montagne del Maryland sud-orientale e si getta nella Baia di Chesapeake dopo un corso di circa 665 km, dopo aver formato per un lungo tratto il confine fra Maryland e Virginia Occidentale, fra Maryland e Virginia e fra il Distretto di Columbia e la Virginia; gli ultimi 180 km costituiscono un grande estuario, dove sono evidenti gli effetti delle maree, ed alla foce il fiume è largo ben 17 km.
